"planetary parade" shortly after sunset on February 28

It's February 21, 2026, right now, you've got just a week to prepare for an incredible astronomical event: a rare "planetary parade" happening shortly after sunset on February 28. This is when six planets—Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune—will appear to align in a stunning arc across the evening sky, visible from Earth due to our perspective on the solar system's ecliptic plane.
It's not a true physical alignment but an optical illusion that creates a breathtaking display, often called a "planet parade" by NASA and astronomers.
To catch it, head outside about 30 minutes after sunset (around 6:00 PM PST in your area, depending on weather) and look to the west-southwest horizon. Venus will shine brightest like a beacon, with Jupiter dominating higher up—both easily seen with the naked eye. Mercury and Saturn will hug the horizon, while Uranus and Neptune (faint blue dots) require binoculars or a telescope for the full six-planet view.

Clear skies and a spot away from city lights, like a park or hill in Surrey, will give you the best shot. The Moon might even join nearby, nearly full, adding to the spectacle.

This event is a reminder of the universe's vast rhythms and our place in it—ancient cultures saw omens in such alignments, but today it's a scientific treat that sparks wonder and curiosity. Mark your calendar; events like this don't happen often, and sharing it with friends could make for an unforgettable night!
